Fly&Sail

Small groups, uncrowded landings, and close contact with nature — your real freedom to explore the most beautiful and remote region on the planet.

01 / ANTARCTICA SAILING EXPEDITIONS

Your real freedom to explore Antarctica

Flexible routes
Nature sets the pace

Skip the lines for shore landings. Come with friends or make new ones over dinner on board. With just 10−18 guests, the atmosphere is warm and easygoing, with space to take in Antarctica in peace.
We adapt to the weather, wildlife, and opportunities each day brings. We can change course, linger at a favorite spot, or spend longer watching whales. Our itinerary leaves room for the moments you came all this way to experience.

200+ expeditions
Polar experts since 2015

We’ve led more than 200 expeditions across the Arctic and Antarctica since 2015. Our work here includes scientific missions, too. You travel with a team whose knowledge comes from years of navigating, exploring, and working in the polar regions.
The Drake Passage separates South America from Antarctica: the world’s widest strait, with some of its roughest seas. For ocean lovers, it’s a bucket-list crossing. If you’re less sure of your sea legs, flying saves time and takes you straight to Antarctica’s more sheltered waters. We offer both.
Both options explore Antarctica by sailing ship. Choose how you get there and back.

You arrange travel to and from South America. We coordinate the included Antarctic flight(s), ship, and listed hotels. Flights and routes are weather-dependent; allow the travel buffer confirmed for your departure.
Not sure which route fits? We’ll help you decide.

What will we see in Antarctica?

The goal is to make the most of what Antarctica gives us that day.
We might change course to get closer to a group of whales, or stay a little longer because an iceberg looks especially good in the evening light.
We have a long list of places we’d love to explore. But racing through it, checking ten boxes, and sticking to a rigid schedule isn’t the point.
The order of stops will change, and some places may be inaccessible altogether. Ice, wind, and the Southern Ocean don’t exactly follow the itinerary on our website.

03 / ANTARCTICA ITINERARY

The final route is always decided by the captain. Safety and actual weather conditions come before schedules, planned stops, or checking boxes in the ship’s log.

Our first taste of Antarctica.

We’ll visit Russia’s Bellingshausen research station, get a glimpse of daily life in one of the world’s most remote places, meet our first penguins, and, if we’re lucky, warm up in a traditional Russian sauna.
KING GEORGE ISLAND, BELLINGSHAUSEN STATION
A wide natural harbor surrounded by glaciers and rugged Antarctic coastline. Large colonies of gentoo penguins nest right along the shore, while traces of the region’s natural history can still be found among the rocks.
YANKEE HARBOR
Black volcanic beaches, dark cliffs, snow-covered peaks, and Weddell seals make Half Moon Island one of the most striking stops in the South Shetlands. It’s a small island, but the contrast between wildlife, rock, snow, and ocean makes it feel surprisingly dramatic.
HALF MOON ISLAND
One of the strangest places in Antarctica: an active volcanic caldera that we can actually sail inside. Black beaches, geothermal steam, rusting remains of an abandoned whaling station, and snow-covered mountains create a landscape that feels almost unreal.
Deception Island
A place where Antarctic wildlife and human history meet. The bow of a century-old shipwreck still rises above the water, while icebergs, glaciers, and passing whales surround what remains of Antarctica’s whaling era.
Enterprise Island
A maze of small rocky islands, glaciers, narrow channels, and drifting ice. Whales are frequently seen in these waters, sometimes appearing surprisingly close to the sailing ship as we explore the archipelago.
Melchior Islands
A tiny historic base surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and gentoo penguins. Here, you can step into the history of Antarctic exploration, visit the small museum, and send a postcard from one of the world’s southernmost post offices.
Port of Lockroy
A narrow passage between towering mountains and glaciers, sometimes called one of the most beautiful waterways in Antarctica. We’ll sail between steep snow-covered peaks and floating ice, watching for seals and whales along the way.
LEMAIRE CHANNEL
Home to thousands of gentoo penguins and one of the largest colonies in this part of Antarctica. We’ll go ashore among the birds, with glaciers, steep mountains, and ice-filled waters stretching out around the island.
Couverville Island
One of the places where we may be able to step directly onto the Antarctic continent. A climb above the bay opens up sweeping views of glaciers and surrounding peaks, while chinstrap penguins nest along the rocky ridge above the water.
ORNE HARBOUR

MEET THE LOCALS

What we can do is rely on years of expedition experience. Over time, we’ve built a pretty good picture of who we see most often — and where.
That said, none of them are on our payroll, so we can’t promise you’ll meet every species on the list.
Contrary to what many people imagine, Antarctica is far from lifeless. In fact, it’s one of the best places on Earth to see wildlife in the wild: dozens of whales, hundreds of seals, and more penguins than you could possibly count.

WANT TO GET MORE INVOLVED?

No experience is required, and participation is completely optional.
No one is going to turn you into a deckhand against your will or wake you up with a whistle before sunrise.
If you feel like diving a little deeper into the sailing side of the expedition, the captain and crew will be happy to bring you in. Under their guidance, you can take the helm, help handle the sails, learn the basics of navigation, or join a watch.
On our sailing ships, you can spend the entire journey simply as a guest: watch the ocean, take photos, read, talk to people, and be responsible for absolutely nothing except enjoying the trip.
